Using intraoral scanners, Dr. Robison can take a highly accurate digital record of your teeth and bite. The new technology reduces the need for tray and putty impressions. The old technique is incredibly unpleasant and frequently requires taking multiple rounds of impressions because of distortions and incomplete details. Our radiation free intraoral scanners ensure a more accurate record from the start, resulting in improved treatment and a more comfortable patient experience.
Currently, Robison Smiles Orthodontics uses two intraoral scanners. Our iTero digital scanner is used exclusively for Invisalign treatment, while our Trios scanner is used in conjunction with our 3-D printer to make our clear retainers and SFC aligners. Our SFC (Straight, Fast, Clear) aligners are an in-house option for minor tooth movements. This is a popular option for minimal corrections as it generally involves less treatment time and is more cost effective since we are eliminating a third party provider.
How Does it Work?
An intraoral scanner digitally captures the structure of the teeth and gums using the latest optical technology. The scanner is a compact, hand-held wand. Once one of our Orthodontic Care Providers begins the scanning process, it can be stopped and started as many times as necessary.
Your mouth is scanned with a radiation-free laser, and in as little as two to three minutes, the laser renders a highly accurate 3D record of your teeth and soft tissue structures. Through digital software, you’ll then be able to follow the progress of the scans in real time on our computer screen.
